ARC Review: Crystal Dragon by Katie Cherry

Crystal Dragon by Katie Cherry is an action-packed YA fantasy that swept me away from the very first page. I was lucky enough to receive an advance review copy of this one, and let me tell you—it’s a ride. A fast-paced, contemporary fantasy that blends the magic of another world with the very real emotions of identity, belonging, and courage.

The story follows Crystal, a teenager whose world is upended when she discovers she’s adopted—just before being whisked away to Zilferia, a vibrant, dangerous realm filled with fantastical creatures, rich lore, and a prophecy that might just place her at its center. Could she really be the long-lost princess of this magical land?

Katie Cherry’s writing shines. I laughed out loud, I teared up, and my heart pounded right along with Crystal’s during the more intense scenes. There’s a full cast of fantasy creatures (some friendly, some… definitely not), and the pacing never lets up for long. I’ll admit, there were a couple of moments that felt a touch too convenient, but they didn’t pull me out of the story—they just made me want to keep reading.

And that ending? I literally gasped. Cherry knows how to drop a twist, and I’ll be first in line for the sequel.
